Description of new WFO Eureka (EKA) Public Weather Forecast Zones effective June 16, 2016:

CAZ101 (Public) Coastal Del Norte

The Coastal Del Norte Zone extends from the Oregon-California state border to the Del Norte-Humboldt County line along the Pacific Ocean. The boundary than turns east along the county line to the 1000-foot contour and then travels north, ignoring river valleys, to the Oregon border and then back to the coast. The Coastal Del Norte Zone includes the towns of Klamath, Crescent City, Smith River, and Hiouchi and highways 101, 199, and 197. Redwood National Park, Six Rivers National Forest, California Coastal National Monument, and state parks Jedediah Smith, Del Norte Coast Redwoods, and Prairie Creek Redwoods are also within the zone.



CAZ102 (Public) Del Norte Interior

The Del Norte Interior Zone includes interior areas of Del Norte County east of a line that follows the farthest west 1000 foot contour. The Del Norte Interior zone includes the town of Gasquet and Highway 199. Redwood National Park, Six Rivers National Forest, Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, and state parks Jedediah Smith and Del Norte Coast Redwoods are also within the zone.



CAZ103 (Public) Northern Humboldt Coast

The Northern Humboldt Coast Zone extends from the Del Norte-Humboldt County border to Cape Mendocino along the Pacific Ocean. The zone boundary then turns due east to the 1000-foot contour and follows that contour north (ignoring river valleys) to the Eel River valley. Continue following the 1000 foot contour up the Eel River to Redcrest. The boundary of the zone then follows Larabee Creek to the 1000-foot elevation. The zone boundary then follows that 1000-foot contour to the northern Humboldt County border. The Northern Humboldt coast Zone contains the towns of Eureka, Arcata, Fortuna, and Scotia and highways 36, 101, 255, and 299. Redwood National Park, California Coastal National Monument, and the state parks Humboldt Redwoods and Prairie Creek Redwoods are also within the zone.



CAZ104 (Public) Southwestern Humboldt

The Southwestern Humboldt Zone extends from Cape Mendocino along the Pacific Coast south to the Humboldt-Mendocino County border. The boundary then follows the county border east to Telegraph Ridge. The border travels north and then east to Elk Ridge, then northwest around Humboldt Redwoods State Park along the ridgeline toward Redcrest until the 1000-foot contour. At this point the boundary turns west along the 1000-foot elevation contour on the south side of the Eel River Valley to south of Centerville Beach until the boundary intersects with the coast at Cape Mendocino. The Southwestern Humboldt Zone contains the towns of Honeydew, Petrolia, Shelter Cove, and Ettersburg. The King Range National Conservation Area and California Coastal National Monument are within the zone.



CAZ105 (Public) Northern Humboldt Interior

The Northern Humboldt Interior Zone extends from the Del Norte-Humboldt County border intersection with Siskiyou County west to the approximate 1000-foot contour nearest the ocean, then travels south along the 1000-foot contour to just east of Blue Lake. The border then jumps the North Fork of the Mad River and turns east up the ridgeline toward Bald Mountain, then southeast along the ridgeline to Mount Andy. The boundary then curves around Grouse Creek along the ridgeline to South Fork Mountain and then southeast to the Trinity-Humboldt County line. Finally, the border travels north along the Trinity-Humboldt County line to Siskiyou County and then follows the Siskiyou County line to the northern Humboldt County line. The Northern Humboldt Interior Zone includes the towns of Orleans, Hoopa, and Willow Creek and highways 96 and 299. Redwood National Park and Six Rivers National Forest are within the zone.



CAZ106 (Public) Southern Humboldt Interior

The Southern Humboldt Interior Zone follows the 1000-foot contour nearest to the ocean beginning near the Mad River south of Blue Lake and travels south to the Van Duzen River north of Redcrest. The boundary then jumps due south toward Redcrest, circulating west around the 1000-foot contour of the ridgeline between the Van Duzen River and Eel Rivers, then jumping due south over the Eel River and up the ridgeline around Humboldt Redwoods State Park on the west side. The border then turns southeast along Elk ridge, then southwest along Telegraph Ridge to the Humboldt-Mendocino County border. The boundary then turns east along the county border to the Humboldt-Trinity County border and then travels due north to South Fork Mountain. The border of the zone then travels northwest along South Fork Mountain, curls southwest and then back northwest along the ridgeline south of Grouse Creek, and then northwest toward Bald Mountain, and then west down the ridgeline back to the Mad River. The Southern Humboldt Interior Zone includes the towns of Garberville, Redway, Myers Flat, Weott, and Bridgeville and highways 36 and 101. Six Rivers National Forest and state parks Humboldt Redwoods, Grizzly Creek Redwoods, and Richardson Grove are within the zone.



CAZ107 (Public) Northern Trinity

The Northern Trinity Zone includes the northern half of Trinity County north of a line starting from the Humboldt-Trinity border at Hennessy Ridge. The border travels south to Chaparral Mountain and then east along the ridgeline to Hayfork Bally and the beginning of the Hayfork Divide. The boundary then follows the Hayfork Divide northeast and then south to Baker Mountain and over Hayfork Summit to Wells Mountain. The border then jumps southeast to Chanchelulla Peak and Stone Ridge to the Trinity-Shasta County border. The Northern Trinity Zone includes the towns of Weaverville, Trinity Center, Douglas City, Del Loma, and Burnt Ranch and highways 3 and 299. Shasta-Trinity National Forest is within the zone.



CAZ108 (Public) Southern Trinity

The Southern Trinity Zone includes the southern half of Trinity County south of a line starting from the Humboldt-Trinity border at Hennessy Ridge. The border travels south to Chaparral Mountain and then east along the ridgeline to Hayfork Bally and the beginning of the Hayfork Divide. The boundary then follows the Hayfork Divide northeast and then south to Baker Mountain and over Hayfork Summit to Wells Mountain. The border then jumps southeast to Chanchelulla Peak and Stone Ridge to the Trinity-Shasta County border. The Southern Trinity Zone includes the towns of Ruth, Hayfork, Hyampom, Peanut, and Mad River and highways 3 and 36. Shasta-Trinity, Six Rivers, and Mendocino National Forests are within the zone.



CAZ109 (Public) Mendocino Coast

The Mendocino Coast Zone includes the entire Mendocino County coast and all lands to 5 miles inland. The zone includes the towns of Fort Bragg, Mendocino, Point Arena, Manchester, and Gualala and highways 1, 20, and 128. Jackson State Forest, California Coastal National Monument including Point Arena, and state parks MacKerricher, Russian Gulch, Navarro River Redwoods, and Manchester are located within the zone.



CAZ110 (Public) Northwestern Mendocino Interior

The Northwestern Mendocino Interior Zone includes the Highway 101 corridor from the northern Mendocino County border to Ridgewood Summit south of Willits. The western edge of the zone begins 5 miles inland along the northern Mendocino County border and then travels south at approximately 5 miles inland until south of Branscomb. The boundary then moves southeast along the 1500 foot contour on the west and south side of the ridgeline which separates the Highway 101 corridor from the coastal hills. The boundary then moves east over Ridgewood Summit and follows the ridgeline around Redwood Valley and then southeast along the ridgeline between Potter Valley and Redwood Valley to Cow Mountain. The boundary then heads north along the eastern Mendocino County border to near Sanhedrin Mountain. The boundary travels northwest on the western side of the ridgeline between Covelo and Dos Rios at the 2500-foot contour to Brushy Mountain, Poonkinny Ridge, and Updegraff Ridge. The boundary then jumps the Eel River to the 2500-foot contour on the southwest side of Island Mountain and then northwest to the corner of the Trinity/Mendocino County line. Finally, the boundary travels along the northern Mendocino County border to 5 miles from the coast. The North-Central Mendocino Zone includes the towns of Willits, Laytonville, Leggett, and Dos Rios and highways 1, 20, and 101. Mendocino National Forest and Standish-Hickey State Recreation Area are located within the zone.



CAZ111 (Public) Northeastern Mendocino Interior

The Northeastern Mendocino Interior Zone includes the highest mountain peaks of Mendocino County. The zone begins at the central corner of the Trinity/Mendocino County border and travels southeast along the 2500-foot contour on the southwest side of Island Mountain, jumps the Eel River, and then follows along the 2500-foot contour along the western side of Updegraff Ridge, Poonkinny Ridge, Brushy Mountain, and then Sanhedrin Mountain to the western Mendocino County border. The boundary then turns north along the county border to the Trinity County border and then west to the Trinity/Mendocino County corner in north-central Mendocino County. The Northeast Mendocino Zone includes the town of Covelo. Mendocino National Forest is within the zone.



CAZ112 (Public) Southwestern Mendocino Interior

The Southwestern Mendocino Interior Zone boundary begins along the ridgeline southwest of Highway 128 at the southern Mendocino County border and then travels north, jumping over Highway 128 to the 1500-foot contour on the west side of the ridgeline that separates the coastal hills from the Highway 101 corridor. The boundary travels north-northwest to south of Branscomb along the 1500-foot contour and then west to 5 miles from the coast. The western border of the zone follows approximately 5 miles from the coast south to the southern Mendocino County border. The boundary then travels east along the county border to the ridgeline southwest of Highway 128. The South-Central Mendocino Zone includes the towns of Boonville, Yorkville, Philo, and Navarro and highways 20 and 128. Jackson State Forest and Navarro River Redwoods State Park are within the zone.



CAZ113 (Public) Southeastern Mendocino Interior

The Southeastern Mendocino Interior Zone boundary begins at Cow Mountain at the eastern Lake/Mendocino County border and travels northwest along the ridgeline between Potter Valley and Redwood Valley. The boundary then travels around the northern fringe of Redwood Valley, then west over Ridgewood Summit to the west side of the ridgeline that separates the Highway 101 corridor from the coastal hills at the 1500-foot contour. The boundary then follows the 1500-foot contour south to Highway 128 east of Dry Creek in far southern Mendocino County. The boundary then jumps Highway 128 and follows the nearest ridgeline southeast to the southern Mendocino County border. The zone boundary then travels around the Mendocino County border to the east and then north back to Cow Mountain. The Southeastern Mendocino Zone includes the towns of Ukiah, Redwood Valley, Talmage, and Hopland and highways 20, 101 and 128.
