Introduction
The choice of the topic of the work "Features of the American version of the English language" is due to the fact that the interest shown in this problem is determined by its significant importance not only for English philology, but also in the circle of such urgent problems of general linguistics as the nature of the language in its territorial variability, the ratio between variants of the literary language, between variants of the literary language and dialects.

The scientific relevance and novelty of the work lies in considering the distinctive elements of the American and British variants of the English language in the context of the language system, and not with other elements of the linguistic structure.

The object of the research is the English language, in particular the American and British variants.

The subject of the research is the differences in the vocabulary and phonetics of British and American English.

The aim of this work is to identify the lexical and phonetic features of American English, as well as to identify differences in the vocabulary and phonetics of British and American English.

To achieve this goal, it is necessary to solve the following tasks:

1. To study the process of forming the American version of the English language.

2. To study the state of the problem in the scientific and methodological literature.

... Analyze the differences at the phonetic and lexical-semantic levels.

The work consists of two chapters. The first chapter is divided into two sub-chapters: the history of the formation of American English and the study of English in the United States. The second chapter also consists of two subchapters devoted to the consideration of the basic phonetic and lexical features of the American version of the English language,

The differences between English in America (American English, hereinafter referred to as A.E.) and English in Great Britain (British English, hereinafter referred to as B.E.) have been discussed for a long time in both specialized linguistic and popular literature. The controversy over which version of the English language should be considered "exemplary" and whether A.E. independent language, finally isolated from V.E., continue to this day. In the past, the attention of researchers has been much more focused on the genesis of the differences between the American and British variants than the identification of the relationship between them in a synchronous way. In recent years, the relationship between British and American English has been clarified through the simultaneous study of their distinctive elements at all levels of the language structure.

In linguistics, there are no precise criteria for distinguishing between concepts such as "dialect", "language" and its "variant". However, despite the absence of clear structural and communicative differences between these categories, a hierarchy of concepts such as “variant of the national language” and “variant of the literary language”, “dialect” has been established. The American version in purely structural terms is a microsystem that is part of the single macrosystem of the English language.
