D. Study the different allophones of a phoneme.

All the sound variations relating to one speech sound are called the variants or allophones of a phoneme. There are two types of allophones of a phoneme which are differentiated in a language. They are positional and combinatory allophones. The variants of a phoneme, appeared depending on its position, are called positional allophones. And the variants of a phoneme appeared depending on the neighbouring speech sounds are called combinatory allophones.
