A. Study the pronunciation of diphthongoids /ı:/.

The vowel /ı:/ is pronounced with the bulk of the tongue in the front part of the mouth, and the front of the tongue raised high in the direction of the hard palate, but not so high as to cause the air stream to produce audible friction. During the pronunciation of this vowel the tongue may slightly change its position. The front of the tongue may move from a more advanced one as a result of which the vowel is diphthongized. The lips are spread and neutral. The opening between the jaws is rather narrow [1, 46].
