The independence of Uzbekistan
September first, 1991 will become a landmark in the history of Uzbekistan as the Day of the Republic’s state independence. It was on August 31,1991 when the Supreme council of the Republic of Uzbekistan adopted the resolution on the proclamation of state independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The Supreme Council in it’s statement adopted on August 31.1991 by the sixth Extraordinary Session proclaimed that the territory of Uzbekistan together with the territory of Karakalpakstan Republic as a part of it’s structure shall be indivisible and unviable.”
The Republic of Uzbekistan has no territorial claims to other states and exercises the supreme right to it’s territory and natural resources.”
Another event of historical significance for the independent Republic took place on March 2.1992. when Uzbekistan was admitted to the UN membership. Uzbekistan like other CIS countries, acquires the rights of a full-fledged member of this most respected organization of the world.
December 8. 1992. will also go down in history, that was adopted the first Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
An important historical event in the life of Uzbekistan occurred on May 5, 1994.That Day it was adopted the law of the Republic of Uzbekistan on approval of the title “Uzbekistan kahramoni” (hero of Uzbekistan) and institution of honoural decoration — “Oltin yulduz”. There was also adopted the laws of the republic of Uzbekistan on the Foundation of “Mustaqillik” and “Dustlik” orders and “Shuhrat” and “Jasorat” medals.
Uzbekistan, which has abundance of natural resources and huge potentials with its independence has become entitled without any guidance from outside, to exploit and use these resources and other possibilities for the country’s social and economic raising and for better living standards.
An active and comprehensive development of economic, scientific, technical and cultural links with various countries is the important factor and mean for strengthening friendly relations with them and for solving economic and social problems.
After becoming an independent state, Uzbekistan was recognized by 131 countries and diplomatic relations were established with more than 103 of them.
Uzbekistan maintains foreign economic ties with many countries of the world and participates in different international festivals, exhibitions, Olympic games and so on. Many industrial enterprises are trying to independently sell their products on the world market.
The development of joint ventures is of particular importance for Uzbekistan. Hundreds of joint ventures are operating in the country. Some of the main ones are:
“UzDaewooauto” in Asaka town, “Zarafshan —Newmont in” the Navoi region, the “Mercedes-Benz” plant in Kharesm ,“Umtex International Uzbek —American —Indian joint venture and “Sovplastital” J.V with Italian, “Alma Roza” company & etc. Uzbekistan has opened its embassies in a number of countries andmany embassies of foreign countries are functioning in Tashkent today.
