In this paper the microstructure of a modified sulfur concrete sample was
studied by scanning electron microscopy and elemental analysis.

Introduction.
The consumption of fossil fuels is growing rapidly around the
world, as is the amount of sulfur that is formed as a by-product of the process of
industrial purification of fuel raw materials. Since the sulfur content is expected
to increase steadily in the future, huge waste disposal costs will be required in the
absence of a counter plan. Therefore, the use of sulfur as a building material, such
as asphalt and concrete, as well as the production of new types of modified sulfur
concrete, is an important scientific and technical task.
Sulfur-based concrete is a thermoplastic composite of mineral fillers and
sulfur. Early research using elemental sulfur showed that it has serious durability
issues such as repeated freeze and thaw cycles.
Certain scientific and practical results have been achieved in the republic in
the creation of sulfur binders and sulfur concretes based on modified sulfur and
sulfur waste from the gas and oil refining industry. On the basis of the normative
measures taken in this direction, certain results have been achieved, especially in
the development of scientific foundations for the production of polyfunctional
compositions, large-scale measures have been taken in the field of providing the
local market with import-substituting products. The strategy of actions for the
further development of the Republic of Uzbekistan outlines important tasks
