UPDATE ON MANAGEMENT OF COVID-19 
AND POST COVID-19

Here we present an update on the mechanism on disease of COVID-19 
especially related to metabolic disease, the standard treatments and 
prevention of COVID-19. Furthermore, we elucidate the role of 
autoimmunity on COVID-19 and Post COVID-19 and the therapeutic 
options for the Post COVID-19 syndrome. In a joint collaboration with 
St. Petersburg State University and Technical University of Dresden with 
many partners around the world have defined the links of COVID-19 to 
endocrine and metabolic pathways. We have identified mechanisms of 
disease inducing diabetes or aggravation of existing diabetes in patients 
with severe COVID-19 disease as well as mechanisms how metabolic 
disorders are promoting severe forms of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Secondly, 
we will present the standard care for patients infected with COVID-19 
disease and the current options of prevention COVID-19 through different 
vaccination strategies that are in use in Russia and Germany and around 
the world. Finally, the symposium will highlight the important role of 
autoimmunity and contribution of antibodies to the disease process in 
COVID-19 and especially Post COVID-19 syndrome. It is obvious that 
our improved understanding of the immunology and autoimmunity of 
COVID-19 and Post COVID-19 syndromes may open the doors for new 
therapeutic strategies. This includes the removal of pathophysiological 
relevant antibodies by immune apheresis or other forms of extracorporeal 
apheresis. Our strategies for building a joint programme for the treatment 
of Post COVID-19 combating this threatening disease will be presented 
in the frame of this symposium.
