Well, I'd like to say that I don't really like spending time with children. But I have a niece, and from time to time my elder sister asks me to look after her daughter, my niece. I can't say 'no' because my sister is always there for me when I need help. So when she asks me for help, I take it as a chance to pay her back. Last year, for example, there was one occasion that I remember like it was yesterday 'cause it was a nightmarish experience.
One morning, I was still in bed when my sister called me. She said that a few hours later she had some important event that she couldn't miss, but her babysitter had just told her that she couldn't come for some reason, and my sister understood she wouldn't find another one at such a short notice. As I've said before babysitting is not my thing, but, of course, I agreed to come to her place and watch my 2-year-old niece.
At first, everything was more or less ok 'cause I managed to keep the kid occupied for some time. We played hide-and-seek in the flat, watched cartoons together, built towers out of blocks (whoever builds the highest tower wins). I read fairy tales to her. Some hours later I started feeling like a slave because she demanded attention and refused to play on her own, but at some point I understood I was out of ideas for things to do. So she started crying. I felt terrible as things got out of hand, and I didn't know how to calm her down. Each hour felt like an eternity and I couldn't wait for my sister to come back home. When she returned home, I was physically and emotionally exhausted, but I didn't say anything to her as I didn't want to make her feel upset or guilty. I was glad I could help her out.
