PREFACE
The STEL for a course of training represents a list of necessary training equipment, training units, training models/simulator, tools and furniture required to conduct the course. It contains the name of the items; essential specification of the equipment, training unit, training model and simulator, hand-tools, the quantity required and the estimated price. The list would be a useful guide for procuring of equipment as well as or budgeting when setting up new training facilities. The STEL has been configured for training facilities to accommodate 40 students per class.
The STEL for each laboratory/workshop can be grouped under 6 general categories, viz Training Equipment, Training Units, Training Models and Simulators, hand-tools, training software and furniture. These are defined as follows:
Training Equipment refers to the machines, test or measuring instruments which are frequently used by the students to carry out their project work and experiments. Examples of the equipment include electro-hydraulic car lift, portable battery charger and air compressor.
Training Units refer to items which are meant to be used for actual practice involving dismantling, troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing and assembling purposes. Examples of training units include suspension units, vacuum servo-brake units and alternators.
Training Models and Simulators refer to items which are used by training staff to demonstrate and simulate the operation of an equipment or system. Examples of Training Models and Simulators include automotive electric system simulator which is used to simulate conditions encountered in real operations. These items may not be required for some modules.
Tools refer to items held in the hand for performing manipulative operations. They are classified into basic and special tools. Examples of hand-tools include pliers, cutters, files and hammers.
Training Software refers to licensed software packages/programs to facilitate the software training. Examples would include Windows, C++ and CAD.
Furniture refers to storage cabinets, tool cupboards, students’ chairs, machine benches and work benches that forms the basic necessities in a workshop.
