I am writing to you as a licensed attorney with expertise in intellectual property law, to provide recommendations on the matter you expressed in your recent inquiry.
It appears that Michigan Document Services, Inc. has copied significant portions of written materials that were assigned readings for University of Michigan courses, and then assembled these materials into “course packs” offered for sale to students. As the copyright owners of these materials, Princeton University Press has the right to take legal action against Michigan Document Services for copyright infringement.
I would recommend that Princeton University Press files a lawsuit against Michigan Document Services for copyright infringement in a federal court, as this type of case falls under federal jurisdiction.
