A Piece of String

When I saw the title of this story, I thought it must be about a simple piece of string. No, I was very wrong, it was about making an innocent person guilty and spending the rest of his life with this guilt to prove his right. How did it affect me? I expected the ending to be completely different, but it didn't happen, unfortunately.
It all started in the early hours of the morning on Beuzeville Road in Gordville. The market is very crowded, nomadic farmers have brought their livestock to sell, and women are holding poultry in baskets. He is busy looking for all the poultry or cattle he needs. But at this moment our innocent hero, Maitre Hauchecorne, was now entering the market. This man, who looked very old, was thrifty like a true Norman. Suddenly, he noticed a piece of thread on the sidewalk and bent down to pick it up, as if he thought it would be useful to him one day, even though it was painful. At that moment, Malandain appeared in front of him. Our hero managed to hide the thread in his pocket and pretended to be looking for something, as if he had not yet found anything on the ground. After that he continued on his way as if he had found nothing, turned the market and saw the prices. Just then the heralds came and made an announcement. According to him, between 9 and 10 o'clock in the morning, Houlbreque's black leather notebook and five hundred francs were said to have disappeared on the road to Beuzeville. It was said that 20 francs will be given as a reward for anyone who finds it. This announcement was repeated a couple of times and the messengers left. Then the crowd debates whether or not to find the pocketbook. At this moment, while our hero was having lunch in a cafe, the gendarmes came and asked if Maitre Houchecorne was here. And he said, "Yes, it's me." They took him to the gendarmerie and asked him several questions about the notebook. He asked why he didn't get the notebook and why they were suspecting him. The corporal replied that Malandain had seen him in the morning on the Beuzeville road. Our hero said that it was just a piece of thread and had nothing to do with the missing notebook. However, the corporal did not believe him and accused him of lying. But the people of the city accused him of lying, and no one believed his words, even if he proved that he did not do this to them. The next day, the notebook was found, and our old farmer was happy to hear that someone else had a rest and returned it, and he died saying he was innocent, but the people in the town thought it was the opposite. That is, they imagined that the farmer gave the notebook away from his partner to hide his guilt. This in turn angered the farmer, who spent the rest of his life trying to prove his innocence, but no one believed him.
This little story reminded me of an incident in the USA, yes, I have seen this incident on TV, but the course of events is almost the same. Security guards are hired for an event, and one of them sees an abandoned bag. It automatically occurs to him that this is a bomb and that he needs to warn the festival-goers about it, and so he does. But as a result, he gets the name of subversive and guilty, not fame or praise. But the difference between this movie and the above story is that his innocence will be proven and he will be very happy about it.
What I want to say is that sometimes when we try to help someone, they think that it is unnecessary, or if we take something worthless from the ground and take it with us, they make us a thief. I wonder what message can be gleaned from these stories, because you cannot understand the human mind or how it thinks. At the end of my speech, I want to say that a person should not think about what others think about him, but about how to continue living in life. Because it is very difficult or impossible for us to explain to people what is actually right and what they think is wrong. Another movie I mentioned was Richard Jewell.
