Whether you are a renter or home buyer who expects to be a full or part time resident we would like to “WELCOME” you to Ventnor. Please take a few moments to look over this friendly greeting. Set it aside to review for future reference. As a new resident of Ventnor this letter and fact list will come in very handy many times over. It contains helpful information on many of the services offered in our Community. Please keep it.

Ventnor City was incorporated on March 17,1903. It has an approximate population of 14,000 year round and 40,000 in the Summer. It is governed by a Mayor and two Commissioners. They serve a 4 year term and there is a two term limit. The current administration was elected in May of 2008. The election is non-partisan. We would like to encourage you to make sure you register to vote in Ventnor. We want you to become a part of the new community in which you have chosen to live.

Ventnor City offers many recreational activities for all ages, including spacious pristine beaches and extensive water sports along the ocean and back bays. A walk on the unique, almost 2 mile Ventnor City Boardwalk and a visit to the last public fishing pier in New Jersey offers you the sounds of a tranquil ocean, while the invigorating salt air serenely lifts your daily cares away. Ventnor is now “your” home.

We are a Community of “VOLUNTEERS” and we have numerous committees that are listed on the reverse side. We welcome your participation and hope to see you at future Commissioner’s meetings. We hope you will choose to get involved and join the Ventnor City family. VENTNOR BEACHES: Lifeguards are on duty from 10 AM to 6 PM daily from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Beach Badges are required for everyone aged 12+. Seasonal or daily badges may be purchased at City Hall or Beach Patrol headquarters. Seasonal badges are discounted if purchased prior to June 1st. Ventnor badges are also honored in Margate. DO NOT swim at an unprotected beach or after the specified bathing hours. ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES, PICNICS & LITTERING are NOT permitted on the Ventnor City Beaches or Boardwalk at any time. Please use the trash receptacles provided, along the beach for your trash. Dogs are only permitted on the beach from October 1 to May 15 but must remain on a leash at all times. Dogs and other animals are never permitted on the boardwalk.
Fishing Pier: Ventnor has the last remaining public fishing pier in New Jersey. It’s open to the public and there is no charge to walk out to the first section of the pier. There is a fee for access to the fishing section (past the locked gate). Daily or seasonal passes may be purchased at the pier office during the summer season. 609-823-7944
Boat Ramp: Located at Ski Beach on the bay at the end of Dorset Avenue in Ventnor Heights. Open during daylight hours. Available to all Ventnor Residents for the launching of boats and personal watercraft.
Tennis & Basketball Courts: Located on Atlantic Avenue between Suffolk and Somerset Avenues. The tennis courts are available during the summer months from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. 609-823-7946.

So you ask, “What can I do to become a good neighbor”? You can start off by keeping your eyes and ears open in your neighborhood. Report any suspicious behavior. Keep your home and car locked. You can maintain the exterior of your home. Keep it free of peeling paint. Keep your grass cut, trash picked up, and trash receptacles need to be put out and brought in, in a timely fashion. Help a neighbor who might need some help. Simply abide by the VENTNOR ORDINANCES (available on line) when it comes to pets. You must curb after your dog. Dogs are never allowed on the Boardwalk and only on the beach during the off season. The residents of Ventnor are excited about their home town. So please get involved and become an asset to your Community. Join in, we need your help!
