Dear Third Graders and Families,
Welcome to Third Grade! I am so excited to be your teacher this year, and know our year will be filled with learning adventures and many challenges!
This will be my sixth year in Lovettsville, and I have taught in Loudoun County for thirteen years. Even though this is only my second year in third grade at Lovettsville, I started my teaching career in Loudoun County as a Third Grade teacher 
Third Grade is where you really start feeling like a big kid in school! During our time together this year we will be doing a lot of writing, and of course plenty of math and reading. Some of the fun things include multiplication, long division, fractions- we will be having lots of practice and games to help us remember our Math facts.

On this Math note, I have an additional request in terms of supplies. I would like a five subject notebook for Math. In replaces one of the spiral notebooks on the supply list you received.

In Reading and writing we are going to have lots of fun writing stories, and we are going to try to reach the “40 Book Challenge” in Reading. As a matter of fact, on the first day of school, I would like you to bring in a book you read this summer!
But do you know the best part of third grade? SCIENCE and SOCIAL STUDIES! We will be doing experiments, and you will learn what scientists have to do to solve problems! We are also going to learn about machines, the water cycle, soil, and animals. In Social Studies we are going to learn about ancient civilizations, such as Rome, Greece, and Mali. Here are just a few fun projects we plan to do: rotting fruit, create models of animal’s environments, build models of ancient ruins, create simple machines, and adopt a tree!!!

I am looking forward to meeting you- I hope to see you at our Open House on August 26^th!
