Conclusion
Nowadays, the interest of the younger generation in reading has decreased, so in order to increase their interest in books, our mothers have to increase their interest in books before they are born, that is, from the time they are born, and after they are born, they read books to them. According to scientists, the more books they read, the more their minds, worldviews, and thinking skills increase. We need to create conditions for children to enjoy reading. For example, we need to create places like nature, and writers should write in a way that is interesting and meaningful for children to understand.
The first section of this briefing note highlights research evidence on reading for pleasure from domestic and international literature; exploring evidence on the trends and benefits of independent reading amongst both primary and secondary- aged children, as well as why children read.
The second section of this briefing covers the evidence on what works in terms of promoting reading for pleasure.
Reading for Pleasure is the entitlement of every child yet how can we foster readers desire and engagement . Our research a two phase Open University and UK Literacy Association project , examined children’s and teachers’ reading lives, and established effective ways to support Reading for Pleasure
