Logistic centers. 
Uzbekistan has two logistic centers, at Angren (113 km 
east of Tashkent) and Navoi in southwest Uzbekistan. A diverse group of 
freight forwarders and logistics companies, including local firms and those 
from the PRC, Germany, Iran, Kazakhstan, the Republic of Korea, the Russian 
Federation, Switzerland, and the United Arab Emirates offer logistics services 
in Uzbekistan. These companies offer mostly traditional forwarding and 
warehousing services. Logistics systems are characterized by fragmented 
supply chains as well as inefficient processes for loading and unloading goods 
from shippers to consignees. Some border crossing points lack sufficient 
capacity to handle the traffic due to poor equipment and a lack of information 
and communication technology used in customs operations.
Modern logistics centers include the CJSC Angren Logistics Center (ALC) and 
the dry port established by Uzbekistan Airways and Korean Air at Navoi airport. 
The latter involves 15 transcontinental forwarding hub connecting traffic routes 
between Western, Central, and Eastern Europe; European Commonwealth of 
Independent States countries; and the PRC, Japan, and Southeast and South 
Asia. However the system as whole remains poorly developed and needs to be 
improved for Uzbekistan to take full advantage of its geographical position as 
a key transit country. Uzbekistan scores poorly in the World Bank’s Logistics 
Performance Index for 2018, ranking 99th (an improvement from the 2016 
ranking of 118) of 160 countries (Table 2.5).
