Scientist of Uzbekistan is awarded the title of academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences
Director of the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, academician Shavkat Salikhov was elected a foreign member of the Academy of Sciences of the People’s Republic of China for outstanding achievements in the field of science.
Scientists who have a great international scientific authority and made a significant contribution to the development of science are elected foreign members of the Academy of Sciences of the People’s Republic of China. Shavkat Salikhov, conducting scientific research in the field of bioorganic chemistry and biotechnology, is the first scientist from Uzbekistan elected to the Academy of Sciences of China and the second among the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States. So far, the only scientist elected as a foreign member from the CIS countries was the Russian scientist, Nobel Prize winner in physics Jores Alferov.
More than ten kinds of original medicinal preparations were created under the leadership of Shavkat Salikhov, based on releasing biologically active substances, studying their structure and the mechanism of action. Antiviral and anti-inflammatory drugs promoting blood clotting, created as a result of these studies, are now widely used in medical practice.
Due to the efforts of the scientist in our country, the Central Asian center for research and production of medicines is being established, which is the first foreign center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The medicines created here will be exported to China and other countries in the future.
The success of Uzbekistan scientist is a high international assessment of the entire scientific potential of our country. The attention paid by the President of our country to the development of science, including increasing the level of research carried out by scientists of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, supporting the active participation of talented youth in this process plays an important role in further increasing such success.
Shavkat Salikhov was conferred an award for international scientific cooperation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in January this year for fruitful cooperation with the Chinese Academy of Sciences, his contribution to training talented scientists, increasing the level of scientific research and innovation of the Academy, as well as for his contribution to the organization and implementation of major scientific projects.
This year, 16 scientists from 8 countries were elected to the Chinese Academy of Sciences, including Nobel Prize laureates, professor of the University of Manchester Andre Geim (Great Britain) and professor of Northwestern University James Fraser Stoddart (USA).
