• For the first time in our independent statehood, the soum currency has been used and is still the only means of payment in the country.

27 years ago, on July 1, 1994, the national currency - the soum was introduced.

How much money did we use up to UZS?

• The Russian currency has been the ruble

Milliy valyuta — so'm 1994 yilning 1 iyulidan o'zigacha amalda bo'lgan so'm-kuponga 1:1000, ya'ni 1000 so'm-kupon 1 so'mga teng  nisbatda muomalaga kiritilgan.

‘Sum’ is derived from Arabic and means ‘price’.

Where is the Uzbek sum issued?

• All banknotes are printed in Tashkent at the State Enterprise "State Badge".

Another distinctive feature of the Uzbek som is its design. The Uzbek soum pays special attention to the depiction of ancient historical monuments and monuments of our great ancestors.

When the value of the soum depreciated, low-denomination banknotes were replaced by coin-shaped soums.
