Task 1. Read the information about Nelson Mandela and answer the questions

A great man

Nelson Mandela, was born in Umtata, in 1918. His father was an important man and he had four wives. Mandela had thirteen brothers and sisters. After school, Mandela went to college in Johannesburg and he studied to be a lawyer. He started the first black lawyers company in South Africa.

For many years he wanted to change the government. He went to prison in 1962 because the government wanted to stop him. For 28 years he was in prison on Robben island.

It was a very happy day when he left prison. In 1991 he was the first black South African president. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 for his work. Now he lives in the country. He loves to listen to music and watch the sun go down at night. He is often called ‘mkhulu’ which means ‘grandfather’, by the people of South Africa
