Activity 1a
Objective: to practise talking about different problems in their area
Divide PP into groups. They read the ideas they wrote for their homework.
They can discuss differences and similarities.
Activity 1 b
Objective: to practise putting different ideas into categories
Ask PP to work in groups and write down their ideas into categories.
Activity 1c
Objective: to practise talking about the problems in PP own area
Ask groups to report their ideas, category by category. So, for example, you can ask all the groups to say what ideas they have about the environment and listen to them, then all the ideas about another category. As groups report, you can note the ideas on the BB. Help PP find similar ideas and put them together. At the end of the discussion groups choose one area to work on. If some groups want to choose the same area they can.
Activity 1d, 1e
Objectives: to practise writing an action plan; to practise making presentation PP work in the same groups and write their action plan either on a poster or put together separate sheets of paper. They try to formulate the plan in a concrete way, using the guidance in the Classbook. Then PP prepare their group presentation using the phrases in the Classbook.
Activity 1f
Objectives: to practise listening to classmates' ideas; to practise evaluating others' ideas
Ask PP to listen to each group's presentation carefully. After listening to each presentation PP, as a group, should write about one thing they liked and one suggestion using the model in the Classsbook.
