1a.  Joey  is  angry  because  his  mom  is  yelling  at  him. 

Joey’s mom is angry because Joey’s grades are not as 

good as Jade’s.   

1b. I agree with Joey. I think his grades are OK, and he 

doesn’t need to compete with Jade. 

1c.  I  agree  with  Joey’s  mom.  Joey  should  try  and 

improve his grades. Only  the kids who  earn the best 

grades go to top universities.   

2. My parents and I fight about my grades and what 

time I go to bed. We solve our conflicts by talking and 

listening to each other.
