UBI = Universal Basic Income
The government should give each citizen a basic income so that they have enough money to live on, even if they are unemployed. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Due to the high unemployment rate, many people believe that governments should provide their citizens with a standard effortless salary even when they are jobless; therefore they can rely and live on it. Personally, I think the government should only give money to unemployed individuals and not provide basic property for employed persons.
To begin with, there are two main reasons why the authorities should provide a standard income to jobless people. Firstly, financially supporting unemployed peoplecan help reduce the crime rate. When persons do not have enough food, they tend to do whatever they can to fill their tummies, including committing an offence. For example, in African countries where the unemployment rateis extremely high, many individuals commit crimes to have money to purchase food. Secondly, unemployed people can have better lives if they are provided with standard incomes. To be more specific, by doing so, jobless humans can approach infrastructure, namely education and hospitality systems. To abridge, a basic earning provided by the government can help unemployees have greater lives and minimize the crime rate.
On the other hand, the union should not give money to employed people
for several reasons. Firstly and foremost, labourless wages can lead to workers' procrastination. Many individuals tend to expose laziness when they know that they can have effortless incomes. In addition, providing a standard income to persons who are not in urgent need can deteriorate the economy.For instance, many peopleproduce less income than what they earn from their government, which means that they pay fewer taxes; therefore, they cannot contribute to the economy. To conclude, if the authorities give standard wages to employed people, they can be lazy and the nation's economy can be destroyed.
In conclusion,I believe that the authorities should only give a basic amount of payment to unemployed people because they are in urgent need and this action can help improve the social problem. Meanwhile, unemployed People should not earn a standard amount of wages .
Robots/Technology
Today different types of robots are being developed which can serve as friends, help at work and at home. Is this a positive or negative development?
Nowadays, different kinds of artificial intelligence or robots are assisting us to do our work whether at an office or at home. In my opinion, while there are both positives and negatives associated with the use of automation or AI, overdependence on machines and robots is not a healthy sign for our society as a whole.
In today's busy work and personal lives, machines have helped in reducing the burden or sharing the load that was required in doing office job or home chores. For instance, with the advent of electronic equipment like washing machines, dishwashers, vacuum cleaners the amount of time and energy required to perform daily household activities has reduced drastically. This
gives more leisure time to spend with children and other fun activities or even hobbies which we are passionate about. Moreover, even at workplaces, with the increase in usage of artificial intelligence or robotics automation, the time required for doing monotonous work has reduced. For example, there are several tasks that are repetitive in nature and are prone to mistakes. So, with less manual intervention such tasks can be done more accurately and efficiently.
However, extensive use of machines can result in over-dependence and result in an unhealthy or lazy lifestyle. To illustrate, people used to be healthy and fit by doing various house chores like washing clothes, cleaning and even washing dishes but with the total dependence on gadgets, they don't get enough physical exercise which is required to maintain a healthy body. In addition, due to robotics and excessive importance given to automation, many people who were responsible for doing mundane tasks are losing their jobs. For instance, in large banks, most of the back end operations task is being done by robots nowadays, which is resulting in job losses and a rise in unemployment.
In conclusion, although there are many advantages of using machines as a companion or assistants, yet, over-reliance on these gadgets can result in a drop in fitness levels and obesity can emerge as a big challenge for society.
Information technology is changing many aspects of our lives and now dominates our home, leisure, and work activities. Do the advantages of information technology outweigh the drawbacks?
