Oliver:  Although  I  would say that when  a salary 
range is given  in  a job  advert,  unless you  can 
prove to the interviewer that you  have extensive 
knowledge of the job and the organisation, you 
would  probably be offered the post at the lower 
end of the scale.
Grace: That's true,  but as long as you’re 
negotiating from  a  position of power,  when you 
know they really want you,  and you’re talking to 
the decision  makers, you’ve got a real chance.
Oliver: Yes, you certainly can’t negotiate when 
you’re still  one of many candidates,  even  if you 
have been  short-listed.  Only once you are the 
final candidate, the one they want to hire,  should 
you  start any negotiations.
