Over approximately 50 years of data the Historical Average Multiple implies that world real GDP growth rate is around 2.1 times that of world population growth rate (Figure 1). The Historical Average Multiple changes marginally depending on whether it is looked at as an average over the last 5, 10, 20 or 30 years (Figure 2).
