In the history of human development, there is a long and rich tradition of understanding the
human psyche. The roots of psychological diagnostics and the psychodiagnostic method go back
centuries. In a concentrated form, knowledge about psychodiagnostics is presented in folk
wisdom. There is a well-known "psycho-diagnostic" parable about a peasant who used a kind of
test to determine the professional suitability of his only son. He gave his son a book, an apple
and a coin and thought this: if the son starts reading a book, then he will become a scientist; if he
takes an apple first, he will be engaged in agriculture; if he is interested in a coin, he will become
a merchant. However, the son acted somewhat unexpectedly: he took a book and began to read
it, while chewing an apple and playing with a coin. The peasant thought about it and decided to
send the child to study diplomacy. In fact, folk wisdom captured one of the principles of preference
tests that are widely used in modern psychological diagnostics.
The decisive stage was the test of a beautiful woman. Those who succumbed to temptation
were deprived of their freedom and, under pain of death, remained in the temple as a slave. If the
candidate for the priesthood repelled the temptress, then he embarked on the path of a long study.

disappear, then the test of the ability to work, listen and keep silent followed. Then the applicant
was tested with water, fire and full

One of the first references to the use of psychodiagnostic procedures to solve actual
problems of practice can be found in the literature on ancient Egypt. It turned out that only those
who were able to withstand a series of lengthy verification procedures were dedicated to the
priesthood.
1. Psychological diagnostics in myths and legends
At the first stage of diagnostics, much attention was paid to the appearance of
the candidates. With the help of the conversation, not only important biographical
information was clarified, but also the level of culture, the general level of
development, outlook, and the ability to speak was also assessed.
