PRACTICAL LESSON 2.
TEACHING GRAMMAR TO B1 LEVEL LEARNERS
Teaching Grammar II – practice and production
Groups:

Aims: Practical aim: to explain the methods of teaching English grammar and working on grammars at lyceums and colleges
Educational aim: Sociolinguistic competence due to profession managing lesson video from classroom language websites in teachers around the world.
Educative aim: to expose participants to professional behavior, social skills and and attitude to foreign culture.
Equipment: handouts, standart , presidential decrees.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the session participants will have:
 reflected on teaching and learning grammar
 practised and discussed different techniques for practising grammar
Key Learning Points:
 Teaching grammar includes presenting it to students and giving students an opportunity to practise it.
 Pupils need controlled and less controlled practice before free practice.
1. Outcomes
Objective: to help participants understand the outcomes of the session
Time: 5 minutes
Interaction: plenary
Procedure:
 Write on the board:

 Ask teachers to recall the previous sessions on teaching vocabulary. Ask what the three PPP stand for.
Answer Key: Presentation, Practice, Production
Say that the first P is for presentation. Write Presentation on the first line.
 Ask them to guess what the rest two Ps stand for.
 Say that practice and production of grammar will be focus of the session
2. Practising grammar
Objective: to give participants an opportunity to explore and practise techniques
for practising grammar
Time: 40 minutes
Materials: Handout 1
Interaction: pair work, group work, plenary
Procedure:
From Controlled practice to less controlled
 Explain to participants that after the presentation of the grammar structure pupils also need to have some chance to practise it. Explain that at this stage pupils need controlled and less controlled practice so that the teacher can monitor and help pupils to use the structure correctly.
 Tell participants that they will do a Chain Drill. Demonstrate it with the example of ‘I’ve been V+ing’ .
