2. Techniques for Better Classroom Control 1
Objective: to help students to explore Techniques for Better Classroom Control
Time: 30 minutes
Materials: Handout 1
Interaction: group work, plenary
Procedure:

  • Ask students why it is important to identify the techniques for better classroom control

  • Elicit responses in plenary.

  • Establish that identifying the techniques for better classroom control is important because teachers need to know how to manage the class and deal with misbehavior Write the following on the board (alternatively, prepare a poster beforehand):

Principles for successful classroom management
Deal with disruptive behaviors but also manage to minimize off-task, non-disruptive behaviors
Teach students to manage their own behavior
Students learn to be on-task and engaged in the learning activities you have planned for them
It is more natural to be off-task than on

  • Ask students to work in groups of 3-4 to decide which lesson in Handout 1the objectives on the board belong. Distribute Handout 1 to participants and ask them to do the task.

  • Discuss the answers in plenary.
