: Eco-logical design fosters human potential, self-reliance and ecological under

repair and modify their own environments. In contrast, pyramidal design invisibilizes resource

: Eco-logical design rebalances economics with eco-effectiveness. But it goes 
further than minimizing inputs of materials and energy or outputs of pollution and waste.
Designers should ensure that the design brief is ecologically and socially sound; the project 
increases eco-efficiency (economy of energy, materials and costs) and also generates positive 
ecological and social impacts on the region.
Creative
: Eco-logical design represents a new paradigm that can transcend or bypass the 
entrenched ‘managerialism’ often found in academia, business and government. Because design 
occupies a different sphere – creativity – it is not burdened with the need to justify itself in rela-
tion to anachronistic theories. Design can leapfrog over old paradigms and tribal disciplines.
Visionary
: Eco-logical design focuses on desired outcomes and then selects or invents ap-
propriate methods, tools and processes to achieve them. This involves selecting or designing 
tools to suit the nature of the specific problems at hand, so that the means fit the ends. In turn, 
this requires critically reflecting upon existing tools in terms of real world outcomes.
