Tectonic plates, which are huge slabs of rock on which continents sit, often bump together. They cause earthquakes and push up mountains. The Himalayan mountain range contains the highest mountains in the world. The tectonic plate, on which India sits, is pressing into the giant landmass of Eurasia. This pushes up the landmass, forming massive wrinkles. These wrinkles are the foundation of the Himalayas.
The plate is still pushing up against Asia. So the Himalayan Mountains are still growing at about one inch every five years. The land at the top of these mountains was once a part of the ocean seabed. Fossils of sea creatures are still stuck in the rocks at the top of these mountains.
Mount Everest, which is in the Himalayas, is the tallest mountain in the world. There are six other mountains in the range over 26,500 feet. These mountains are often called the “Rooftop of the World.” The range stretches more than 1,500 miles through many countries in central Asia.

Think of the biggest meal you've ever eaten. It's likely that Sonya Thomas has eaten a lot more than that. The petite woman weighs only about 50 kilos, yet she has smashed national and international records in competitive eating. Competitive eating events are contests to see who can eat the most of a certain kind of food in a set amount of time. When it comes to this competition, dainty diners need not apply.
Have you ever eaten lobster? Sonya can eat 44 of them in 12 minutes. How about French fries covered in chili and cheese? Sonya once ate more than 8 pounds of them in 10 minutes. Sonya has eaten 65 hard-boiled eggs in 6 minutes and 40 seconds. That's about half the time it takes to cook a single egg! You might eat a slice of cheesecake for dessert. Sonya once consumed 11 pounds of this rich dessert in just 9 minutes.
