1. In a statistical study, what is the general purpose of collecting and correlating data?

The purpose of a statistical study is to answer a research question, and by collecting and correlating relevant and meaningful data, a researcher can find patterns that help him answer his question and support his conclusion. These correlated data help the researcher explain the results of his study to his readers and help the readers “picture” the patterns that the researcher has found.

2. How can correlated data be presented in a statistical study?

Correlated data can be presented either as descriptive statistics or graphic representations.

When data are described, they are generally arranged in a table; when data are graphically represented, they are expressed in figures such as histograms, bar graphs, and polygons.
Consider, for example, the various ways in which the results of a language proficiency test can be presented.
