Theme: Free time
Most people have hobbies and interests which they prefer doing in their free time. As for me, I don’t get much free time, especially on weekdays. However, at weekends I try to do the activities I like most of all. They are skating, bowling, dancing, swimming, reading, listening to music and going out with my friends. Ice-skating is something that I have taken up recently and I quite enjoy it. Swimming is my all time favourite activity. For bowling and dancing I need a company. Sometimes me and my friends go to the nearest disco and dance there. The ground floor has bowling alleys, so we can combine these two activities.
When I have spare time I love reading books, especially romantic novels and detective stories. When I want something relaxing, I listen to music. My favourite band at the moment is Linkin Park. Occasionally I go for a walk with my best friends. We chat about everything, and sometime we even gossip about other classmates. I plan my weekends in advance. If I don’t have my own plans my friends usually offer me something exciting.
Speaking of hobbies, I’d like to tell you about my collection of coins. I collect coins from all over the world. My father often travels and he brings me many different coins. My other hobby is collecting soft toys. I already have more than 50 items. They occupy a special place in my room and my heart.
I know that British teenagers have many other leisure activities, such as playing football, horse-riding, taking care of pets, going hiking or to theme parks, and else.
School is the place where I spend most of the time. Lessons and breaks, concerts and excursions, homework - all these things are very important for me now, but still I have a lot of free time.
Of course during weekdays I have less free time, because of homework. Soon I will finish school and I have to think about my future education. That’s why I spend my free time often reading or studying. On weekends I can sleep longer and relax. I try to do all the important things on Thursday and Friday, to have Saturday and Sunday only for me and my hobby. One of these days I can do shopping, visit library or museum, go out with my friends, visit relatives, organize my room or help to my parents. As you can see my Saturday is usually very busy. In the evening I can go to the disco with my friends or have tea or pizza somewhere outside. I think it’s very important to spend your free time how you want.
On Sunday I prefer to stay at home with my family. Usually my dad cooks breakfast for everybody and I go to walk our dog. Later on we go to the street market all together. It has become our tradition and after market we have lunch all together.
After family lunch I can take a nap or read my favorite book. Sometime I can help to my younger brother with his homework or read a story for him.
As you can see my free time is not really free. But this is the way I am. I don’t like to stay by myself, because then I feel useless and boring. I have different hobbies and all of them are gonna be useful in future I hope. But of course I always have moments only for me. If I really need to think about something or relax, I turn on my favorite music or call to my friends. I think people have to spend every free minute with use: staying with their family, learning new things, helping other people or just relaxing and saving energy for new achievements.
Theme: Future plans
When you leave school you understand that the time to choose your future profession has come. It’s not an easy task to make the right choice of a job. I have known for a long time that leaving school is the beginning of my independent life, the beginning of a far more serious examination of my abilities and character.
I have asked myself a lot of times: “What do I want to be when I leave school?” A few years ago it was difficult for me to give a definite answer. As the years passed I changed my mind a lot of times about which science or field of industry to specialize in. It was difficult to make up my mind and choose one of the hundreds jobs to which I might be better studied.
I asked a lot of questions myself to make the right choice: what sort of life do I want to lead? For example, do I want to live in the country or in town? Is leisure time of great importance to me? Is the size of my salary important? Do I want to put down roots or travel widely? What sort of work do I want to do? For example, do I like working alone or with others? Does teaching people appeal to me? Do I want to be an organizer of other people's activities?
As for me, I have made up my mind to be a manager. My choice of this occupation didn't come as a sudden flash. I think that nowadays this profession is of great need and importance to our country. It is my aim to be a qualified specialist and to serve the interests of my country. To be a well-prepared manager I should have some important qualities: great persistence, sociability, considerable knowledge, and, of course, knowledge of foreign languages
That is why I want to enter Pyatigorsk State Linguistic University. I think that there I can get good knowledge to become a good specialist. And of course I want to learn languages better, because to my mind every educated person should know a foreign language. I always remember these famous words: “He, who doesn’t know a foreign language, doesn’t know his own language.
