The proposed research document contains a description of the history of theater in the UK.
The research project describes the period of English theater from the Middle Ages to the present day, its directions and trends. The play describes the formation and development of the main theatrical trends, the specifics of theatrical struggle at different stages of historical development. Particular attention is paid to the issue of national identity of the English theater.

Do you love theater as much as I do? Our great compatriot Vissarion Belinsky asked his contemporaries a question and became deeply convinced that one cannot fail to love theater.
Do you like theater? More than 20 centuries ago, the great fathers of the ancient theater, Aeschylus and Sophocles, Euripides and Aristophanes, could address the same question to the spectators who filled the stone seats of the huge amphitheaters in the open air of Hellas. .
After them, in other centuries, as well as other historical periods in England, Shakespeare and Ben Johnson could have addressed their contemporaries with a similar appeal. And they all asked people of their time, "Do you love theater?" - would have the right to believe in a positive answer.
