The table compares the percentage of money spent on three different items in five countries in 2002. It is clear that by far the highest share of money spent on food/drinks/tobacco whereas Turkish people were bigger spenders on these goods.
In 2002 ,Food/drinks/tobacco accounted for almost one third of total consumer expenditure of Turkey, simultaneously this being the highest proportion throughout the table. While the second biggest spender for this category was Ireland with slightly lower share(28,91), the figures for Italy, Spain and Sweden significantly lower: 16.36,18.80 and 15,77 respectively.
The percentages for clothing/footwear and leisure/education categories were remarkably lower especially the second one .In Italy, 9 percent of national consumer expenditure went on clothing/footwear, while only over one third of that amount spent for leisure and education. Ireland and Spain had comparable figures for both these categories:6,45 and 2.21 for the former versus 6.51 and 1.98 for the latter. Expenditure of Turkey for clothing/footwear and leisure/education was considerably high with the former being second and the latter ranked first. Although Sweden had the lowest share for the clothing/footwear , the proportion of leisure/education(3.22) was significantly higher when compared to other countries.
