Statement of Intent
Vocabulary teaching and learning is a constant challenge for teachers as well as learners because historically there has been minimal focus on vocabulary instruction in the ESL classroom. Due to this, an increased emphasis on vocabulary development is crucial for the English language learner in the process of language learning.
Vocabulary is the main source of a language and language acquisition is always started with building up learning the stock of words. Without a word, no means of communication can exist.
All 4 skills are included in Vocabulary. The TBLL approach exposes the English language learners to authentic language and challenges them to interact naturally in the language. Learners rapidly gain a true picture of the richness and complexity of the English language as employed for communication. Moreover, this approach stresses that English is neither an object of academic interest nor merely a key to passing an examination. Instead, English becomes a real means of interaction and sharing among people. Especially in this century, the century of modern technology, while everything, every gadget is in English. This approach allows teachers to track learners' progress in multiple skills at the same time. However, it can be difficult to include all skills altogether.
There are two types of teaching vocabulary instruction. They are content-based language instruction and task-based instruction. The first of these emphasizes learning content through language, while the second stresses doing tasks that require communicative language use. The content-Based approach pays much more attention to the content itself, to its meaning and grammar. The task-based learning approach includes most communication. Both of these benefit from a diverse range of materials, textbooks, and technologies for the ESL or EFL classroom.
In the research Task-based language learning, the following criteria are described. The reason for choosing this topic is that to find an answer for:
What is TBLL itself?
Why do we need TBLL?
What kind of types can be found?
What skills can be developed through TBLL?
What is the connection between TBLL and Vocabulary?
Taking into consideration above-mentioned goals of the research, the objectives of the qualification paper are the following:
To investigate teachers’ methods based on Task-Based approach
To have an observation among different classes
To compare Task-Based approach with other approaches
To identify the advantages and disadvantages of TBLL
To show the importance of having TBLL
To compare several opinions and articles of different language teachers of other countries
To investigate and compare teachers’ and learners’ opinion about TBLL
In Task-based instruction, learners participate in communicative tasks in English. Tasks are defined as activities that can stand alone as fundamental units and that require comprehending, producing, manipulating, or interacting in authentic language while attention is principally paid to meaning rather than form.
To sum up the researcher’s ideas, TBLL can be as useful both for teachers and for learners at the same time, because the lesson could be interesting for learners and teachers can get effective results.
