Box 2.2. What do we mean by ecological monitoring? The term ecological monitoring can be defined as
a continuous testing, controlling and forecasting
the state of the environment including soils and
their properties on the basis of modern research
techniques including ground-verified remote
sensing data [15]. The main tasks and concepts
of ecological monitoring have been defined in
UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Programme
and many other publications.
