About Russion literature
As we pass from the 18th century to the 19th century, we notice that great Russian novels were created in parallel with great French novels, i.e. mutual enrichment was already under way. And at this point the names of Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky immediately come to mind. I'd like to note that when French authors mention those who had the greatest influence upon them they refer to Dostoyevsky. They name him not only when they discuss Russian fiction, but also among those authors who produced the strongest impression on them.
Even today Dostoyevsky is very popular in France, including among youth. Young people find in his works those spiritual and moral questions which they ask themselves. In addition, they are attracted by the depth, relaxedness and freedom of emotional expression which are inherent to Dostoyevsky.
