For some people, shopping is not just about buying what is necessary, but a form of 
entertainment. Do you think it is a positive or a negative development? 
It is undeniable that in this hedonistic society, purchasing things have gained popularity 
among individuals and has become a form of pleasure for them. While this way of becoming 
shopaholic brings some adverse effects on society as well as for individuals, I also believe 
that it helps them to keep abreast with their daily needs. 
On the one hand, there are certain negative sides of this current trend. Firstly, it nurtures 
the hypocrite mentality among people as mostly individuals tend to buy things which are 
simply unnecessary and in this way they become spendthrift and lose their control of 
expenditure which may bring misfortunes and abet them to ruin financial strength of family.
Secondly, excessive craze of shopping leads to throw away society as people tend to pile up 
things which they even do not require, thus become willing to dispose of used items too 
quickly in order to replace them which create heaps of trash, especially in urban areas and 
prove to be detrimental to the environment. Finally, many times lot of craze for shopping 
becomes unproductive for people as this is a huge waste of money and seldom develops a 
person physically or intellectually. 
On the other hand, there are some positive effects that I need to consider.
First and 
foremost , it is a way of feeling relaxed and freshens the mind of people and also helps an 
individual to escape from a tedium and hectic life and even accelerate a person becoming 
social by providing him opportunity to accompany someone or meeting new people. 
Moreover, it also satisfy person’s needs because purchasing basic items is imperative for 
people in order to spend life in an easy way like buying household necessities including food 
and other daily utilities.
Last but not least , shopping is the signature of individual’s 
progression and country’s development as it act as a boon not only to individual, but equally 
to the nation as well and it has given rise to consumerist society of today by providing 
employment to many. 
In conclusion , I believe that the darker sides of this increasing trend of shopping cannot be 
undermined since it has resulted into people becoming obsessive individuals , however as an 
enjoyment source, it has brought enormous positive ramifications .
