pragmatic errors (Gass and Selinker, 1994: 289). Undeniably, this issue may not only thwart the 

learning  process,  but  also  negatively  affects  interpersonal  relations.  Therefore,  what  is  needed 

here is raising students’ pragmatic awareness through pedagogical intervention and instruction, a 

point further discussed in the section that follows.
