Sea animals are devastated: One third of the fish shall die. This fact alone will cause great distress in all the earth.

  • It will cause a food crisis: Fish feed much of the world's population and provides a major food source for many countries. "It is estimated that fish contributes to at least 50 percent of total animal protein intake in some small island developing states, as well as in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Equatorial Guinea, French Guiana, the Gambia, Ghana, Indonesia and Sierra Leone." (Green Facts website) These countries would be crippled by this and would never recover from it with everything else going on.

  • It will cause a financial crisis: Commercial fisherman will be hurt and some bankrupt. It will effect restaurants, food suppliers and host of other business that depend upon this industry.

  • Ships lost in destruction: One third of the ships shall be destroyed. This will bring an extremely high death tolls. Consider the following facts to help give you an idea. Currently we have over 40,000 commercial and merchant ships registered in 143 countries. There are more than 9,000 naval ships from  50 different countries, and a host of unknown amount of large private vessels.

  • Souls linger in death: With all these ships destroyed and one third of the waters poisoned there will multiplied thousands who will die. Not to mentioned the multitudes who live in coastal areas will be greatly affected. This will cause disease, starvation and bring great suffering to the world.

  1. The Effect of Nuclear Destruction

  1. The power of nuclear weapons: They are the most powerful force on the planet created by mankind. He now has the ability to destroy himself in his lust for power, control and wealth.

  • The sadness: Mankind does not fully realize the implications of what these weapons can really do to our society. "We have yet to fully grasp the monstrous effects of these weapons, that the consequences of their use defy reason, transcending time and space, poisoning the earth and deforming its inhabitants." General Lee Butler, former head of U.S. Strategic Command, December 4, 1996

  • Our blindness: We have weapons that we now can hurt our enemy but fail to see how we can destroy ourselves as well. When General Butler became head of the U.S. Strategic Air Command, he went to the Omaha headquarters to inspect the 12,000 targets in the former Soviet Union. He was shocked to find that dozens of warheads were aimed at Moscow (as the Soviets once targeted Washington). General Butler said, "We were totally out of touch with reality." (20) U.S. planners had no grasp of the destructive power of nuclear weapons. One small nuclear warhead alone could destroy a major city.

  • Our boasting: We brag about our military strength and ignore our moral foundation. We would do well to heed the words of our last five star General Omar Bradley. " We have men of science, too few men of God. We have grasped the mystery of the atom and rejected the Sermon on the Mount. The world has achieved brilliance without conscience. Ours is a world of nuclear giants and ethical infants. We know more about war than we know about peace, more about killing than we know about living. If we continue to develop our technology without wisdom or prudence, our servant may prove to be our executioner." Armistice Day speech (11 November 1948), published in Omar Bradley's Collected Writings, Volume 1 (1967)

  • The strength: The strength of nuclear weapons today far exceed the atomic bombs used in World War II. "In summary, it can be seen that if a nuclear explosive force of 100 megatons was used it could destroy civilization. It could turn our world into a dark, cold, radioactively polluted planet with few survivors." Consequences of Using Nuclear Weapons by Dean Babst and David Krieger 1997

  • The scope: No person anywhere on the planet will be safe from the effects of nuclear fallout. Without the restraint of the Holy Spirit this world is heading on a collision course for total disaster and destruction.

  1. The plague of nuclear weapons: Nuclear explosions produce both immediate and delayed destructive effects. Blast, thermal radiation, and prompt ionizing radiation cause significant destruction within seconds or minutes of a nuclear detonation. The delayed effects, such as radioactive fallout and other environmental effects, inflict damage over an extended period ranging from hours to years.

  2. The people with nuclear weapons: You have some sick power hungry leaders with nuclear weapons. In our own day the leader of North Korea and Iran come to mind. They are unstable, irrational men that could cause a large scale nuclear war. I believe during the tribulation it will be far worse. These type of men are just setting the stage for things to come. "North Korea is a crazy country and it has a crazy leadership," Beijing resident Wu told CBS News, giving only his first name. "They talk nonsense while holding their peoples' lives hostage. The government uses money to build nuclear weapons while their people starve." (By Shannon Van Sant CBS News April 5, 2013, 10: 54 AM) The leadership in Iran has been well documented on their hatred for Israel and if they had the capability they would use it against Israel. One day they will have the ability and the horrors of this ugly war will affect every single person on the planet.

  1. The Effect of Nasty Demons

  1. Their home: The pits of hell. Revelation 9:1-2 (1) "And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. (2) And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit." No doubt this fallen angel is Satan who is given the key to allow this wicked group of demons loose on the earth. This will be judgment on a Christ rejecting world.

  2. They were hindered: They could not touch the 144,000 witnesses. They probably would have went for them first, but God protects this servants who are getting the gospel out to the entire world.

  3. Their hatred: They have no love and they only seek to destroy. All will try to kill themselves because of how bad these stings are, but God will not allow them to die! These are demonic in nature, so it is highly likely that no amount of protection, or walls, or anything will prevent these demons from afflicting those who do not have God’s seal.

  4. Their hurt: They afflict everyone they can. They do not care what they believe or do not believe. John10:10 "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." People will be afflicted by the god of this world that they chose to follow. Making the right choices are important, and everyone needs to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as their savior. If they do not the consequences will be great. The Tribulation will be a time when planet earth will smell horrible. I think it will be so great it will make people throw up and get sick to their stomach.

  5. Their horror: For five months they will cause intense suffering that no one shall escape from. Small and great in the earth will suffer. This will be no different than the plague of the first born in Egypt. On those who had the blood over the doorposts survived that night. It affected Pharaoh as well as the lowliest servant. The focus will be on hurting man not the environment. The only thing man will care about during this time is food and water! Man will not think twice about killing another for the food he has, if any. Earthquakes, demonic locusts, frequent and deadly plagues, horrific odors, people acting baser than ever imagined, scalding heat, rocks falling from the sky, darkness, predators and pests, barren landscapes with no green grass and only a third of the trees left, and dead bodies and carcasses everywhere. 2 Corinthians 6:2 "(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)"

Lesson Six The Battlefield of Rebellion

Text: Revelation 12:1-17

(7) And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, (8) And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. (9) And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. (10) And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. (11) And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. (12) Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. (13) And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child. (14) And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent. (15) And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood. (16) And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth. (17) And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Introduction: This battle will happen in the midpoint of the tribulation period. This battle will start in heaven and then continue on earth, after Satan is cast out of heaven. You can look at it as one battle with two parts or two separate battles, but let's examine an overview of how it will unfold. This is the halfway point of the tribulation and the intensity of trouble, conflict and persecution is really going to increase. The devil is manifesting his all out rebellion against God. He knows his time is short and he is doing everything he can trying to get a victory that he has no hope of winning. Sadly many will follow his lies, empty promises and end with a destroyed life with no hope for eternity. John 8:44 "Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it."

Illustration: On a recent trip to Haiti, I heard a Haitian pastor illustrate to his congregation the need for total commitment to Christ. His parable: A certain man wanted to sell his house for $2,000. Another man wanted very badly to buy it, but because he was poor, he couldn't afford the full price. After much bargaining, the owner agreed to sell the house for half the original price with just one stipulation: He would retain ownership of one small nail protruding from just over the door.

After several years, the original owner wanted the house back, but the new owner was unwilling to sell. So the first owner went out, found the carcass of a dead dog, and hung it from the single nail he still owned. Soon the house became unlivable, and the family was forced to sell the house to the owner of the nail.

The Haitian pastor's conclusion: "If we leave the Devil with even one small peg in our life, he will return to hang his rotting garbage on it, making it unfit for Christ's habitation."   Dale A. Hays, Leadership, Vol X, #3 (Summer, 1989), p. 35.

Overview of Events

  • The rebellion: Satan and his forces attack the forces of God in heaven.

  • The rejection: Satan is cast out of heaven with his evil crew down to earth.

  • The relationship: Satan completely possess the antichrist and then he goes into the temple and declares himself God.

  • The rage: Then he kills the two witnesses and begins the attack on Israel.

  1. The Conflict (v.7)

  1. The rebels attack: The devil and his evil army attack God. They are attacking the God of glory and have no respect for God.

  2. The rebellious attitude: To think they would be so hard hearted and evil that they would attack God and rebel against him. Like Cain who was wicked and got mad at God because he did not do things his way or condone his evil false religion. Genesis 4:5-6 (5) "But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. (6) And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?" Just like the wicked Cain slew the righteous Abel, this wicked group will seek to do the same on a much larger scale. Man must learn to submit to God. For man to be mad at God for not doing things his way is pure rebellion, arrogance and shows a shallow concept of God.

  3. The righteous army: God will give the order to Michael, the Archangel, who is the “commander-in-chief" of the holy angels, to fight the devil and his evil army. For Michael the archangel fighting for the people of God is nothing new, but he is faithful in carry out God's will. Daniel 12:1 "And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book."

  1. The Casting Out (v.9)

  1. Because he was defeated: He loses to the army of God. The evil angels, under the direct command of the Devil, will not be in the “third heaven” where God is, but in the “first” and “second” heavens where they have been for around 6,000 years.

  2. Because he was diabolical: He is wicked and he cannot abide in the presence of God. His days are numbered.

  1. The Critical One (v.10)

  1. He is a deceiver: The devil seeks to lie to us about true faith, family and our future. He is a liar and unfortunately he is a very good one. Stay close to God and know your Bible so you can see through his deception. The best way to be able to discern lies is to know the truth. It is important to study your bible, draw close to God and know the tricks of our enemy. 2 Corinthians 11:13-14 (13) "For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. (14) And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light."

  2. He is divisive: The devil seeks to divide, discredit and destroy the testimony of every believer. As Christians we need to understand who are enemy really is. John 13:35 "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." Keep your eyes on Jesus and do not have a critical spirit. So many have a divisive spirit and cause problems in the church because immature and do not get their own way. They need to grow up and repent of their sin.

  3. He is determined: The devil will work relentlessly to try to reach his goal. He never stops working and we should not take our enemy lightly. 1 Peter 5:8 "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:" He is engaged in an all out effort to try to destroy the things of God and anyone who identifies with him.

  1. The Conquering (v.11)

  1. By salivation: " And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, " We have a strong opponent, but not one who is invincible. His greatest desire is to see you remain spiritually blind and never get saved. 2 Corinthians 4:4 "In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them." When a person gets saved they deal an eternal blow to Satan. He can no longer have their soul. Re 12:11

  2. By soul winning: " and by the word of their testimony; " The greatest thing you can do for a lost soul is share the gospel with them. Be zealous about witnessing to people. Acts 20:20 "And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publickly, and from house to house," Go on the offensive and give out the gospel.

  3. By surrender: " and they loved not their lives unto the death." If Satan cannot get your soul he does not want you to live for God. He will try to discourage you and ruin your testimony. Keep your eyes focused on the Lord and live a life with no regrets. When I went to see my mom in the hospital in 2010 we had a great visit together. When I left I felt it would be the last time I would ever see her. So I went in the gift shop bought her a gift and went back up to see her. I was able to spend some precious quality time with my mom. I left and not to long after that my mom died and I never saw her again. I knew I did everything I could while she was alive and had no regrets. We need to do the same in our life as a Christian on this earth. No regrets!

  1. The Celebration (v.12)

  1. His presence: is no longer with them. He has been cast out.

  2. His punishment: Is certain and his time is very short.

  1. The Calamity (v.12)

  1. Warning: The devil is on his way down there, watch out. He will be confined to the earth and the next 3 1/2 years will be the closest thing to hell on earth since the foundation of the world.

  2. Wrath: He has a short time and he will let his full wrath loose on Jews, Christians and all who oppose him.

  1. The Cruelty (v.13, 17)

  1. His possession: When Satan is cast out of heaven he will then fully possess the antichrist. Daniel 9:27 "And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate." In the middle of the tribulation he will go into the temple, stop the sacrifices and then declare himself God. The antichrist will be like Judas and be totally possessed by Satan, and soon will come to his downfall. Luke 22:3 "Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve."

  2. His persecution: The two witnesses and the rest of the Jews will resist the antichrist. The antichrist will kill the two witnesses and launch an all out assault on the Jewish people and the saints of God. The devil has been attempting to do this for the last 6,000 years. During the second half of the tribulation he will destroy 2/3 of the Jewish people. Zechariah 13:8 And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein. The ever increasing wave of “anti-Semitism” around the world today is a lead up to the last half of the Tribulation when many Jews will be killed to allow Satan to be temporary victor in the world in the last days.

  3. His pride: He kill Jews and tribulation saints because they refuse to recognize him as God. He will be like the wicked Haman except much worse. Esther 3:5-6 (5) "And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence, then was Haman full of wrath. (6) And he thought scorn to lay hands on Mordecai alone; for they had shewed him the people of Mordecai: wherefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even the people of Mordecai." With demonism and Satanic activity also on the increase in our world, we can indeed see how the stage is being set for the final drama to be played out in the very near future.

  1. The Covering (v.15-16)

  1. Protection: Though many will die God will protect his own from being completely destroyed by the antichrist. He will be furious with God's protecting hand, but he will never be able to override or stop what God is doing.

  2. Patience: All of God's promises will come to pass. Do not live in fear or despair, look up for your redemption is drawing nigh. Hebrews 11:13 "These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth."

Lesson Seven The Battlefield of Blood

(Armageddon)

Text: Revelation 16:16

(16) "And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon."

Introduction: The battle of Armageddon is described in Daniel 11:40-45; Joel 3:9-17; Zechariah 14:1-3; and Revelation 16:14-16 and some other passages as well. It will be at the happen in the final days of the tribulation. The site for the converging of the armies is the plain of Esdraelon, around the hill of Megiddo. The area is located in northern Israel about 20 miles south-southeast of Haifa. This will be a horrible time to be alive and mankind will see the full wrath of God for his refusal to repent. Hard and rebellious hearts never please God. Mark 3:5 "And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other."

Illustration: Just before the death of actor W.C. Fields, a friend visited Fields' hospital room and was surprised to find him thumbing through a Bible. Asked what he was doing with a Bible, Fields replied, "I'm looking for loopholes." Source Unknown.

At the end of the 19th century two French writers went to visit the well-known French scientist, Peirre Berthelot. Berthelot was a kind of scientific prophet. He forecast some of the weapons of mass destruction which would appear in the next century. He said to the writers, "We have only begun to list the alphabet of destruction." Silence fell over the meeting. Then the elder of the two writers said quietly, "I think before that time comes, God will come like a great gatekeeper with his keys dangling at his waist and say, 'Gentlemen, it's closing time.'" Source Unknown.

Three Area's We Will Study

  • The Campaign of Armageddon: It will be in several stages.

  • The Carnage of the Army: The rebellious army of the antichrist will suffer great bloodshed in a crushing defeat.

  • The Coming of the Almighty: The return of Jesus
