"The charm" was written by Jan Carew, a famous Guyana-born novelist, poet and educator who lived at various times in Mexico, England, Canada, France, Spain and The United States. I read it a month ago. It is also a mysterious story. The story is about a brave man who works as a soldier.
In the story, the narrator is not a brave man, he is shy and afraid until an old blind man whom he meets by chance gives him a charm and assures him that nothing bad will happen to him. He believes in the power of the charm and lives through several battles with the charm in his possession. But one day, after inspiring a group of soldiers to follow him into attack, he realises that he has lost the charm. For a moment, he feels afraid again, until he realises that truly brave people are ones who are afraid, but still do dangerous or courageous things.
I think this is one of the best stories i have ever read. Because through this story, the author tried to explain to the reader that even the bravest people in the world have fears, they are also afraid of something, but overcoming fear is in everyone's hands and he succeeded. And in this story, he also states that everyone who needs help should be helped as much as possible. As I read this book I come to the conclusion that every reader should definitely read this book.
