About the Authors 

Panel

Steve Graham, Ed.D. (Chair), is the Emily 

Warner Professor in the Division of Educa-

tional Leadership and Innovation in Mary 

Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State 

University. A former teacher, his current work 

focuses on how writing develops, how to 

teach it effectively, and how writing can be 

used to support reading and learning. He 

is currently working with colleagues on the 

development of digital tools to support read-

ing and writing. Dr. Graham’s research has 

been supported by grants from the Institute 

of Education Sciences (IES) and the Office 

of Special Education Programs. He was the 

chair of the What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) 

practice guide Teaching Elementary School 

Students to be Effective Writers, and he co-

authored three influential reports about writ-

ing for the Carnegie Corporation of New York: 

Writing Next, Writing to Read, and Informing 

Writing. He is the current editor of the Journal 

of Educational Psychology and past editor of 

the Journal of Writing Research, Exceptional 

Children, and Contemporary Educational 

Psychology. Dr. Graham is the co-author of the 

Handbook of Writing Research (2nd edition), 

Handbook of Learning Disabilities (2nd edi-

tion), and the APA Handbook of Educational 

Psychology.
