ASSESSING SKILLS AND ABILITIES
On its own, adequate coverage of the content of the course is not sufficient to 
ensure that assessment is valid. The content of the course is important and much 
time was spent before and during the development of the syllabus – to determine 
the most appropriate material for conclusion, but the course is much more than 
a detailed syllabus, lesson notes, and information for students. The content of 
the course provides the context in which they develop as a result of working with

the material. If assessment is to be valid it must specify them in categories, which 
can be recognized.
This is done by using a simplified and modified version of the educational objec-
tives specified in Bloom’s Taxonomy of Educational Objectives.
