Tax system

The fundamentals of the current Uzbekistan tax system were established as part of a key series of tax reforms introduced during 1991. Since then the tax system has been modified on numerous occasions and remains one of the complex aspects of the Uzbekistan business environment.

The most notable modification of the tax system in the past few years is the introduction of a new Tax Code as of 1 January 2008 (amended as of 25 April 2016). The Tax Code has unified the underlying principles of taxes and obligatory payments charged in Uzbekistan and practical guidance on calculation and payment which had been previously set out by specific instructions on each tax.
