Nowadays one of the endangered species is gorilla. Gorillas are so talented and 
smart animals because about 98.3% of their DNA is highly similar to that of
humans . So, they have the ability of feeling; they could be happy, depressed , 
scared &… . Gorillas are the largest living primates, reaching heights between 1.25 
– 1.8 meters and weights between 100- 270 kg. 
Generally, the genus gorilla is divided into two species: the western gorillas and 
the eastern gorillas, and either four or five subspecies. Unfortunately both of these 
groups are highly endangered. In 2020 only 150 to 180 of Cross River gorillas 
were estimated to survive. 
Their population decrease is mainly as a reason of illegal hunting, habitats 
destruction and also as they are closely related to humans, they could easily get 
infected by diseases . In addition, their slow process of reproduction made their 
population increase process more challenging.
To sum up, we should pay more attention to the nature and specifically to the 
gorillas because they are in a serious danger. All of these information help us to 
have a better knowledge about our environment; so after them everything is in our 
hand, saving? Or destroying?

What are the similarities between gorillas and humans? Does this 
information help us to know how much are they important to the nature? 
It’s amazing that 98.3% of the gorillas’ DNA is similar to the humans’ 
DNA; with knowing this information and looking to the animals rights, we 
could reach this idea (even a reality) that they have same rights as the 
humans, so their rights must be respected.

Where is the natural habitats of most of the gorillas population? How many 
of them were estimated to survive recently? 
Most of them are living in the subtropical zones, such as Cross River. In 
2020 it was estimated that 150 – 180 of them were existing.

What makes gorillas population increase process difficult?
Their slow process of reproduction ; every six years a female gorilla could 
have a baby.

WRITING 2 
The Amur leopard is a leopard subspecies which lives in southern Russia 
and northern China. This is another endangered animal that is listed in the 
Red List. 
In 2007, only 19-26 wild leopard where estimated to survive. By passing 
time and more protection, their population have increased. As of 2015, fewer 
than 60 individual were estimated to survive in Russia and China . In 2019 it 
was reported that the population is close to 90 leopards. 
Same as other endangered animals the humans’ activities are the biggest 
threats to them. Selling their skins and bones are the main reasons which 
cause hunters to continue their illegal activity. In addition, a significant 
climate changes made their habitats unsuitable; Amur leopard is well 
adapted to cold weather and snow , but the increasing temperature made 
their life conditions hard to tolerate. 
Fortunately, as a result of the great plans their new generation are being 
protected and their population have increased. However, this is not enough 
and everybody who lives in this earth is responsible of protecting them.

The process had good increases, the plans and also the correct activities were 
helpful, as we could see from 2007, which there only was 26 species , now 
we’ve reached 100.

benefits legal and in line with animals rights?
Generally, selling the leopards” skins and bones has a huge profit for the 
sellers and the hunters, these make them to continue their illegal hunting.
