Question 1:what can we say about general patterns of
grammar in the poem?
(Refer to units A3, B3 and C3 when undertaking these activities)
Identify the main clauses in the poem, and any subordinate clauses that are placed
around them. (Remember, there can only be one S element and one P element in
any main clause). What pattern emerges as the overall grammatical system of the
poem? For example, where are units like Adjuncts and subordinate clauses posi-
tioned? Do they function as anticipatory, trailing or equivalent constituents?
Question 2:what can we say about foregrounded patterns of
grammar in the poem?
(Refer to units B1 and A3 when undertaking these activities.)
Identify any sequences which break from the basic grammatical pattern you have
identified for the poem as a whole. For example, are there any places in the poem
where clause structure gives way to sequences of phrases which are 
not
connected to
a Subject and Predicator element?
Question 3:what can we say about sound and rhythm in 
the poem?
(Refer to units A4 and B4 when undertaking these activities)
Identify any significant aspects of sound patterning in the poem. Does the poem
display a dominant metrical pattern? Or is its versification based more on the rhythm
of natural speech than on a formal metrical scheme? In other words, is the poem
written in 
free verse
?
Does the poem contain any significant features of sound symbolism like
onomatopoeia? If so what, what is the function of these devices in the poem?
The term 
grammetrics
describes the convergence between grammatical structure
and rhythmical structure. Can you identity any significant coalescence(s) of grammar
and metre in the poem?
