Political condition
The Republic of Uzbekistan (Ozbekiston Respublikasi) - is an independent secular democratic republic with a presidential form of government. Independence from the Soviet Union was announced on Sept. 1, 1991. The Republic is included in the CIS. Head of state - president, elected in general elections for seven years. Head of Government - Prime Minister. The Cabinet of Ministers to be appointed appointed by the president with approval of the Supreme Assembly. Legislative - bicameral Supreme Assembly or "Oliy Majlis", consisting of a Senate or Upper House (100 seats; 84 deputies elected in the regions for five years, 16 members appointed by the president) and the Legislative or Lower House (120 seats; deputies are elected in general elections for five years). Administratively the country is divided into 12 "viloyats" (regions), Karakalpakstan Autonomous Republic and 1 city district ("Shahar"), Tashkent.
