strongly supports the Lakehurst to Monmouth Junction passenger rail alternative that is being studied in the Monmouth-Ocean-Middlesex Rail Environmental Impact Statement.

 

Passenger rail service is critically needed in central New Jersey, one of the fastest growing regions in the state. The preferred alignment to Monmouth Junction will provide a more reliable mode of transportation for the rising number of transit dependent residents of the entire region. Its benefits will reach well beyond the boundaries of the three counties by providing an alternate means of transportation to job destinations, educational facilities, medical centers, cultural attractions and airports. In addition to the personal benefits to riders, the environment and employers also stand to gain; by the reduction of air pollution caused by automobiles and buses idling on congested highways, and by the reduction of lost productivity due to time spent by commuters stranded in traffic jams.

 

The Lakehurst to Monmouth Junction alternative encourages Smart Growth, maintains the quality of life our region has come to enjoy, and promotes the continued economic vitality of the region and the State of New Jersey. It is with this in mind that I offer my support and endorsement to the MOM passenger rail alternative alignment from Lakehurst to Monmouth Junction.
