USE OF THE ABDUCTION SPLINT FOR EPIPHYSEAL 
OSTEOMYELITIS IN NEWBORNS.

Relevance:
To date, osteomyelitis of the proximal part of the femur and their 
complications has been one of the most pressing problems in infants for surgeons 
and orthopedists.The treatment of hip dislocation following this disease is complex 
and often leads to disability in patients, this is 20% -30%, according to the authors. 
Purpose
.
Improving the results of treatment of epiphyseal osteomyelitis of the 
proximal part of the femur in infants and prevention of pathological dislocations. 
Material and results.
It is based on the analysis of the results of treatment of 
168 infants treated with epiphyseal osteomyelitis in the clinic TashPMI in 2014-
2020. Of these, 116 infants from 7 days to 10 days, 22 infants from 12-14 days, and 
6 patients from 30 days were treated with hip bone epiphyseal osteomyelitis. 68.6% 
of the patients in our follow-up were boys and 31.4% were girls. 
Patients who applied to our clinic were thoroughly examined by specialists 
and prescribed the first stage of treatment. In order to prevent pathological dislcation

of the femur, which is one of the complications of epiphyseal osteomyelitis, after the 
patient had eliminated the purulent inflammation, treatment was continued with 
orthopedists using a legs abduction. Taking into account the fact that the splint does 
not cause pain in the leg, the individual approach to each patient was followed by 
monitoring the tension of the adductor muscles. The splint was gradually lengthened 
and the leg was abducted and fully abducted to 90
0
within 1 month, a follow-up X-
ray examination was performed, and additional physiotherapy treatments were 
ordered in an outpatient setting. 
Children with complications of the disease were monitored from 1 month to 
3 years of age, all our patients with epiphyseal osteomyelitis of the proximal part of 
the femur the clinical splint was used out at different times. According to the child's 
condition and radiological changes, 112 children had been wearing a clinical splint 
for three months, re-X-ray examinations were performed once a month and 
additional recommendations were given. 
In our follow-up for 3 to 6 months because 24 of the patients had purulent 
arthritis they underwent outpatient treatment and physiotherapy treatments on a 
regular basis. 
Conclusion.
If such patients are diagnosed early, when used in conjunction 
with therapeutic treatments and an abduction leg splint, it further increases the 
chances of preventing complications and saves from disability.
