IELTS Writing Task 2: your real opinion isn't always best 
Your real opinion isn't always the best opinion to give when answering an IELTS question. I tell my 
students to brainstorm ideas before they decide which opinion to give. You might find that there are 
more (or better) arguments for a view that you wouldn't agree with in the 'real world'. 
Take this question for example: 
Sports programmes are hugely popular on television nowadays. But some people argue that 
these programmes are to blame for the poor health of many young people who prefer to watch 
rather than partake in physical activity. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this 
view?
Try planning some ideas, and think about the following questions: 
- What is your real opinion about the topic above? 
- Is your opinion easy to write about, or would it be easier to choose a different answer?
