IELTS Writing Task 2: 'strong opinion' answer 
If the question asks whether you agree or disagree, you need to make your opinion very clear. You 
can either have a strong opinion or a balanced opinion. Let's try writing a 'strong opinion' answer for 
the following question: 
Families who send their children to private schools should not be required to pay taxes that 
support the state education system.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
When you have a strong opinion, you don't need to mention the opposite view. 
Here's my plan for a 4-paragraph essay: 
1. Introduction: 1 sentence to introduce the topic, 1 sentence to make your opinion clear (e.g. I 
completely disagree...) 
2. Main paragraph: support your opinion with a reason 
3. Main paragraph: support your opinion with another reason 
4. Conclusion: repeat/summarise your opinion

IELTS Writing Task 2: a recent question 
Here's a recent exam question that was given to me by one of my students: 
In some parts of the world it is becoming popular to research the history of one's own family. 
Why might people want to do this? Is it a positive or negative development?
Try planning some ideas. I'll share mine next week.
