Science and Our Food Supply: Investigating Food Safety from Farm to Table

ACTIVITY AT A GLANCE

This activity introduces students to food safety. It includes information about the number 

of people affected each year, the 4 Cs of Food Safety, the Farm-to-Table Continuum, 

who’s responsible for keeping our food safe, and the link between food safety and other 

content areas. The topic is launched by letting the students relate food safety to the 

foods they like to eat, such as hamburgers, orange juice, and salad. At the end of the 

activity Understanding Bacteria, Module 1 of the video is shown to set the stage.
